Everytime we get messages on social media, we’re always so curious where in the motherhood journey they’re on.
While most of our followers have at least one child, many who are expecting their first baby and doing their research are completely overwhelmed by the choices.
We asked Ruya, who’s expecting her first baby, what she was looking for in a diaper bag. She simply said, “I have no clue!”
And she’s right, how can a first-time mom even know what she needs when the baby’s not even here yet? Becoming a mom comes with a thousand decisions, but few feel as overwhelming as choosing the right diaper bag.
As proof, polls show that:
- 60–75% of first-time moms say they don’t love or end up replacing their first diaper bag within the first year.
- About 1 in 3 moms replace it within the first 3–6 months.
And this is because, they’ll usually choose a diaper bag based on:
- Aesthetic & hype (what looks cute online or on a registry)
- Price pressure (“If it’s $200+, it must be good”)
- Gifts & registry picks (not what they personally tested)
But once the baby is here, real life kicks in, and the stresses of being out and carrying their diaper bag in the wild, they realize:
- It’s too heavy once packed
- Straps dig in
- Too many compartments or none that make sense
- Hard to clean
- Doesn’t work for their lifestyle (travel, stroller walks, toddlers, hands-free needs)
“I wish I found you 4 diaper bags ago,” says Kristin, who’s only on her first child, and she’s already gone through 4 diaper bags.
Kristin’s comment is all too common. Search “best diaper bag for first-time moms,” and you’ll be met with endless lists, luxury price tags, and bags that look beautiful online…
but don’t always work in real life.
After hearing from hundreds of real moms, we’ve learned this truth:
The best diaper bag isn’t the most expensive. It’s the one that makes everyday parenting easier.
